Stokes County is home to the popular Hanging Rock State Park, an expansive area that boasts over 20 miles of hiking and mountain trails, beautiful waterfalls, and easy access to recreation on the Dan River. Plus, Stokes County is just a short trip away away from other major mountain stops, including Pilot Mountain, Stone Mountains, and South Mountains.

Shopping & Dining

Since Stokes County is filled with small towns, local shops and eateries abound. Grab some of your groceries at stops like Betty's Country Grocer, grab a drink and listen to live music at Green Heron Ale House, or hunt for some treasures at the East Stokes Thrift Store. For more options, all of the shopping and dining of Winston-Salem is under an hour away. 

Public Schools

Stokes County is served by the Stokes County School District, and just over 6,000 students attend the 19 schools around the area. The schools in the district also boast a low student-to-teacher ration, which offers an enriched learning environment dedicated to helping students reach their full potential.

Amazing Location

There are tons of things to do within Stokes County, but the area also has an excellent location for accessing attractions outside of the county limits. Winston-Salem and Greensboro are both under an hour away, Asheville and the mountains are around 2-3 hours away, and major cities in the Triangle — like Durham, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh — are just 2 hours away.
